“Ophelia has been integral to my recovery process.”
Having experienced Sciatic pain in my right leg for 3 months, and following a diagnostic MRI scan showing a disc extrusion at L4/L5( causing neural compression), I had given up my regular swimming, Pilates and walking activities.
I had received treatment from a Physiotherapist and an Osteopath( prior to diagnosis) and had also had a referral on the NHS.
I am generally an active, outdoorsy sort of person and wanted to regain my activity levels.
Ophelia is a friend and neighbour and had suggested that I have a look at the McGill method for my back. I read Stuart McGill’s book on back mechanics and had a discussion with Ophelia prior to my first consultation.
I had started to implement some of McGill’s recommendations into my daily life( to stop “picking the scab”) and my sciatic pain had started to ease slightly…but it’s not a quick fix!
Ophelia has been integral to my recovery process. She has tailored core strengthening exercises and general fitness activities to suit my ability and to balance those with my experienced pain.
Above all, she has given me to gain the positivity to stick at it for a positive outcome. Her sessions are enjoyable and productive .
6 months on, 11 sessions with Ophelia and daily exercising at home, I am almost pain free! I understand what tasks and movements trigger my pain and I have returned to walking, cycling, gardening and caring for my young grandsons.
As a result of my sessions with Ophelia, I feel that my core strength is much improved, my knowledge and understanding of my condition is good and I have positivity for a full recovery.
It’s not easy…..it takes time and focus for both mind and body…but it’s worth sticking with it though!
